The APME 2010 Conference – Building Momentum – is shaping up to be a dynamic, must-attend event Oct. 20-22 at the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The conference will open at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

At the lead-off session, media industry leaders will share their perspectives on what’s new in print, digital, mobile and wireless. Join a discussion led by Gannett Vice President/News Kate Marymont with AP President and CEO Tom Curley; David Hunke, president and publisher of USA Today; Ernie Schreiber, editor of Lancaster New Era and lancasteronline.com, and Chris Doyle, vice president of content for The E.W. Scripps Co.

A special panel on leadership – what are the things you need to know that you didn’t learn on the way up – will include Wanda Lloyd, executive editor of the Montgomery Advertiser; Margaret Sullivan, editor of The Buffalo News, and Neil Brown, editor of the St. Petersburg Times. Butch Ward, managing director and a member of the Poynter Faculty, will moderate.

Other sessions include:

• The Associated Press report with AP Senior Vice President and Executive Editor Kathleen Carroll.

• Connecting with Your Communities, focusing on how to leverage differences of race, class, gender, geography and generation to better connect with audiences.

• Behold: The Fifth Estate, moderated by Kelly McBride, ethics group leader and co-leader of Poynter Ethics Fellows, with Drew Curtis, founder of Fark.com.

• Midterm Election Eve Outlook, with AP special correspondent David Espo.

• Oil Spill and You: Coverage successes and what’s ahead.

• The Long-Distance Desk: Big name companies are consolidating work of the copy desk at regional editing centers. Mark Baldwin, regional executive editor of Central Wisconsin Media will moderate.

• Innovator of the Year Awards. The three finalists – The Seattle Times, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle and the Statesman Journal of Salem, Ore. – show off their projects and answer your questions – and then you decide the winner.

• Ten Things Great Bosses Know, with Jill Geisler, leadership and management group leader at Poynter.

• One-on-one leadership coaching sessions. Jill Geisler, Leadership and Management Group Leader at the Poynter Institute, will offer a limited number of coaching sessions on a first-come, first-serve basis, on Thursday, Oct. 21.

• The opening reception – and silent auction – Wednesday, Oct. 20, will be held at the Salvador Dali Museum, near the Poynter Institute. The museum hosts the largest collection of Dalí's work outside of Spain, including eight master works and 96 oil paintings. It has a total of 2,140 Dalí paintings, prints, sculptures and drawings.
