APME Mission
APME Mission
The Associated Press Media Editors is an association of news and broadcast leaders, and journalism educators and student leaders in. APME works closely with The Associated Press to foster journalism excellence and to support a national network for the training and development of editors who run multimedia newsrooms.
APME is focused on advancing the journalism profession, providing feedback to The Associated Press on its news and services, and is on the front line in setting ethical and journalistic standards for newspapers and broadcast outlets, and in the battle for freedom of information and the First Amendment.
APME has held a multi-day conference annually since 1933 – except during World War II – in cities around the United States and Canada. Its elected officers serve as national leaders in speaking out on journalism issues.
APME is a nonprofit, tax-exempt association under Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code. Any person who is the editor, executive editor or managing editor, or holds any other title that provides for senior responsibilities for the news, online or editorial staffs of an AP member newspaper, broadcast outlet or is a journalism educator or student media leader, is eligible for membership.

The APME Foundation

The APME Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization established in 1988 to receive tax-exempt gifts to carry out educational projects for the advancement of newspaper journalism. Every year since 1994 an auction has been held at the annual conference to benefit the foundation. Proceeds help support NewsTrain, a regional, low-cost training opportunity around the country and other practical education tools promoting the First Amendment, innovation and diversity in newsrooms.
