Amtrak and United Airlines are offering a 10 percent discount on travel to and from Washington for the APME/APPM conference.

The reduced Amtrak rail fares are available from Sept. 30-Oct. 9, three days before and after the conference. To get the discounted rate call Amtrak at 1-800-872-7245 or contact your local travel agent and use the convention fare code number X12Q-921. (IMPORTANT: Amtrak is not making the code available for online bookings; it is necessary to contact Amtrak directly or a travel agent.) The offer is valid on Amtrak Regional and Acela service for all departures seven days a week, except for holiday blackouts, as well as Sleepers, Business Class or First Class seats with payment of the full applicable accommodation charges. It is not valid on the Auto Train.

Parking averages $30 a day in downtown Washington, so consider taking the train.

To take advantage of United's 10 percent discount, purchase your ticket online at www.united.com. After entering your origin, destination, travel dates and promotion code number 577JS, available flights will be displayed. There are no fees for booking on line at www.united.com when you use the special promotion code. (The code is case sensitive so use capital letters.)
