Responsibility as print/online editor

To understand how U.S. daily newspapers have been handling the challenge of the Internet to the newspaper industry, all editors were asked, in the end of the survey, Is your responsibility as an editor mainly on print or online at your newspaper? As shown below, 39% reported their main responsibility as print editors, 19% as online editors, and 42% as both.

On average, the 1,251 editors surveyed were 46.4 years, with a standard deviation of 10.2 years, ranging from 21 to 79.

Years of experience in news organization

Of the 1,251 editors, the average year of experience in the news organization was 13.4 years, with a standard deviation of 10.3 years, ranging from less than one year to 47 years.

Years of experience as a newspaper editor

Similarly, the average year of experience of the 1,251 editors as a newspaper editor was 15.1 years, with a standard deviation of 10.2 years, ranging from less than one year to 49 years.
