NewsTrain in suburban Columbus, Ohio, will be a full Saturday of digital training on Oct. 21, 2017, at Ohio University's Dublin Integrated Education Center, 18 miles northwest of downtown. Sessions include:

  • Maximizing your smartphone for mobile newsgathering, with Jeremy Pelzer of Cleveland.com;
  • Using social media as powerful reporting tools, with Doug Haddix of Investigative Reporters & Editors;
  • Shooting short, shareable smartphone video, with Sue Morrow of The Sacramento Bee;
  • Making smart choices in mobile storytelling, with Q. McElroy of Cox Media Group; and
  • Producing data-driven enterprise stories off your beat, with Doug Caruso of The Columbus Dispatch.

Early-bird registration is $75 through Sept. 21; the rate increases to $85 on Sept. 22. Journalists, journalism students and journalism educators from diverse backgrounds are invited to apply by Sept. 13 for competitive diversity scholarships; successful candidates have their registration fee waived.
