The APME has honored the above photograph as National Member Photo of the Month for April 2013.
Thanks to Robert St. John, Jeremiah Bogert and Calvin Hom at the Los Angeles Times for Judging this month.
Here is what the judges had to say about the winning image:
of this image places you in the moment, instead of the aftermath. The
viewer almost feels like they are there when the bomb exploded. The
officer running on
the left looks as if he could be chasing a bomb suspect or rushing to
another victim. Strong foreground, great composition with three police
officers forming a classic triangle. Powerful background contributing to
the sense of place. Cleaner image than the
other bombing photos, an instant read. This iconic image will forever
define the domestic terror attack."
Bill Iffrig, 78, lies on the ground as police
officers react to a second explosion at the finish line of the Boston
Marathon in Boston, Monday, April 15, 2013. Iffrig, of Lake Stevens,
Wash., was running his
third Boston Marathon and near the finish line when he was knocked down
by one of two bomb blasts. (AP Photo/The Boston Globe, John Tlumacki)
