The APME has honored this photograph as National Member Photo of the Month for February 2014.
Thanks to Judy Walgren at the San Francisco Chronicle for judging this month.
Here is what the judges had to say about the winning image:
"The overall incredible winner is frame #35 from Al Diaz showing the valiant effort put forth by Pamela Rauseo to save her nephew. What a photograph! And what are the chances that a Pulitzer-prize winning photographer would be right behind them, would have the presence of mind to run for help and return to the scene to shoot this amazing image. What else can I say other than Al Diaz is a consummate photojournalist!"
Below is the link to all images entered for February and the winner is slide #35.
Pamela Rauseo, 37, performs CPR on her nephew, 5-month-old Sebastian de la Cruz, after pulling her SUV over on the side of the road along the westbound lane on Florida state road 836 just east of 57th Avenue around 2:30pm on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014. At right is Lucila Godoy who stopped her car to assist in the rescue. Later that day, Sebastian was in stable condition at a hospital. (AP Photo/The Miami Herald, Al Diaz)
