Who should attend
Sunlight NewsTrain is hands-on training for local reporters who want to learn how to track congressional earmarks in their readership area. No special computer assisted reporting expertise is needed – reporters will be walked through a series of online databases and tools that will allow them to access information on earmark recipients, campaign contributions to members of Congress and lobbying records that they can use in developing stories for APME's national reporting project on earmarks.
Reporters will also learn tips and tricks for finding out more about who's getting earmarks. The tools that participants use to develop reporting leads on earmarks can also be useful for those covering political races or for backgrounding local companies, universities and nonprofits.
