The Board of Directors of the Associated Press Media Editors supports the actions, the professionalism and the rights of student journalists Tim Tai and Mark Schierbecker, among others, to cover student protests and other events surrounding the resignation of University of Missouri System President Tim Wolfe and University of Missouri-Columbia Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin.
One arm of this institution, Missouri School of Journalism, is regarded as one of the top schools in the country. APME is heartened by the quick response of that department and, in particular, its dean, David Kurpius, to help its students, faculty and the general public to understand the role journalists play in chronicling public events.
We understand historical concerns by minority groups regarding the media, but we strongly believe the best way to address such concerns is through more interaction between journalists and the communities they serve.
APME is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit dedicated to the training and development of editors who lead newsrooms. We also advocate on behalf of the First Amendment and free press issues.
