The APME has honored this photograph as National member Photo of the Month for April 2016.

April 2016 Member Photo of the Month

Caption: Justin Nelzen, in red vest, joins others as they work to rescue horses along Cypresswood Drive near Humble along Cypress Creek, Monday, April 18, 2016, in Houston. More than a foot of rain fell Monday in parts of Houston, submerging scores of subdivisions and several major interstate highways, forcing the closure of schools and knocking out power to thousands of residents who were urged to shelter in place. Here is what the judges had to say about the winning image:

"This is a rare, dramatic and heroic image that captures the emotion of a perilous rescue effort of five people and a horse.” And “You can’t help but be in the moment here and feel the panic and experience empathy with the situation. Powerful shot that focuses on the faces, including the horse, and compels you to be present and need to know more."

Thanks to Laura Sellers-Earl and Adam Drey from EO Media Group for judging this month.
