It’s been a little more than a year since President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and funds from the $787 billion stimulus have been flowing, albeit haltingly at times, to local communities ever since.

There are now records of 77,000 grants, contracts and loans to prime recipients in Recovery.gov, the online resource for tracking the stimulus. Those prime recipients in turn have hired others—subrecipients in the language of Recovery—104,700 times, and purchased goods from vendors 57,000 times. While prime recipients have mostly been state and local governments, the lower tier is made up of companies.

Are local businesses finally seeing Recovery dollars?

Making sense of more than 240,000 records from approximately 210 awarding agencies in their raw format can be challenging. That’s why APME is teaming up with ProPublica the Sunlight Foundation to host an online Webinar to show you and your staff tools and tips for exploring this data.

Visualize where the money is coming from and going to, and drill down to find Recovery projects in your area. We'll show you how to match up businesses with projects, and find out whether local employers are benefiting from the stimulus money. The Webinar should last about an hour.

We will offer this training at multiple times so it can fit with your staff’s schedule: we’ll begin Monday, April 5 (noon and 3 p.m.) andThursday April 8 (3 p.m. and 6 p.m.) and Friday, April 9 (9 a.m. and noon). All times are Eastern. Jennifer LaFleur of ProPublica and Bill Allison of the Sunlight Foundation will host the Webinars—sign up information is below.
