APME has honored this photograph as the member Photo of the Month for September 2010.
Thanks to Michael Mercanti at the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News for judging this month. What Michael had to say about the image:
"The Las Vegas Sun’s Sam Morris photo of a scuffle breaking out during a Nevada candidates’ forum clearly details the divisiveness of one of the election’s most hotly contested battles, the Harry Reid and Susan Angle race. As the caption stated, the crowd heckled and cheered both candidates that night, eventually inciting some in the audience. It’s shocking because these aren’t young men in the scuffle but seniors surrounded by concerned audience members attempting to pull them apart. Sam captured a visual moment in that room that explains just how deep and angry and polarized the voters in the state were. This is an excellent news event photo for the raw and troubling facts it exposes”
