The Arizona Republic is the July winner of APME's Innovator of the Month contest. The paper is honored for its innovative work over four platforms: print, online, broadcast and mobile.
APME's Innovator of the Year, now in its fifth year, has expanded in 2011 by naming an innovation of the month.
Here's how the entry submitted by Randy Lovely, senior vice president/news and audience development, described the newspaper’s work:
"This was the year of innovation at Republic Media. We innovated around our priorities -- watchdog reporting, breaking news, sports, local lifestyle, politics, visuals, data, storytelling and community leadership. We innovated across four platforms: The Arizona Republic,azcentral.com
, KPNX-12 News, and our mobile products.
"We innovated in how we came together as a unified print, online, mobile and television staff, creating work groups to look into best practices, experiment with new ideas, and come back with ways to make the sum of our combined efforts greater than our individual parts.
"The last half of 2010 was spent preparing for 12 News to move into the Republic Media newsroom. The first half of 2011 has been working on finding new and innovative ways to make the partnership between all properties flourish.”
