August 2006 Showcase Photo

This is the August 2006 Member Showcase photo of the month, as judged by APME. Candy Lou, owned by George Goodley, of Corydon, Ky., keeps an eye on the competition as she races to the finish line of the second annual Wiener Dog Races at Ellis Park horse racing track Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, in Henderson, Ky. Candy Lou won in the third heat and finished fifth in the finals. The Wiener Dog Derby is a benefit for the Riverview School in Henderson.

The Associated Press Managing Editors association awards Member Showcase Photo honors each month for the best image shared by a newspaper with other Associated Press photo users. The competition is judged by a panel of AP and member photo editors. The best of the monthly Showcase photos receives a Member Showcase Photo prize at the APME annual conference in October.
