| This is the November 2006 Member Showcase photo of the month, as judged by APME. This is a photo showing one of the two new polar bears swimming underwater Thursday, Nov. 17, 2006, above people in an observation tunnel at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. The zoo unveiled the $14 million exhibit for the animals that includes a waterfall, a
freshwater stream and a 150,000-gallon pool chilled to between 50 and 55 degrees. It also features a yard where they can play or nap. |

The Associated Press Managing Editors association awards Member Showcase Photo honors each month for the best image shared by a newspaper with other Associated Press photo users. The competition is judged by a panel of AP and member photo editors. The best of the monthly Showcase photos receives a Member Showcase Photo prize at the APME annual conference in October. |
