January 2007 Showcase Photo

This is the January 2007 Member Showcase photo of the month, as judged by APME. Norwalk, Conn., firefighters and EMS personnel try to figure out how to remove a man who became stuck in a donation box at the Salvation Army office on Jan. 17. When temperatures begin to drop people often try to reach into the large opening of the donation boxes in search of warmer clothing, firefighters say. The man was rescued.

The Associated Press Managing Editors association awards Member Showcase Photo honors each month for the best image shared by a newspaper with other Associated Press photo users. The competition is judged by a panel of AP and member photo editors. The best of the monthly Showcase photos receives a Member Showcase Photo prize at the APME annual conference in October.
