October 2007 Showcase Photo

This is the October 2007 Member Showcase photo of the month, as judged by APME. Erin O'Sullivan, holding cups, gets a group hug with her family in front of her parents' home in Rancho Bernardo, Calif. Wednesday Oct. 24, 2007. The rest of her family along with a police escort are in the background. She and her sister and mom, found pieces of the family china and childhood memorabilia in the rubble of the home destroyed by the wildfires. The family entered the Westwood Community in Rancho Bernardo with an escort to see the shape of their home after the fire storm.

The Associated Press Managing Editors association awards Member Showcase Photo honors each month for the best image shared by a newspaper with other Associated Press photo users. The competition is judged by a panel of AP and member photo editors. The best of the monthly Showcase photos receives a Member Showcase Photo prize at the APME annual conference in October.
