FINDING THE BIG PICTURE WHEN MIRED IN THE MIDDLE
Drew Tarter, photo director at The (Biloxi) Sun Herald, is among the many journalists documenting the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. There are many challenges to covering an ongoing story of such magnitude and the lessons learned are relevant for journalists nationwide.

This week, Tarter, a member of the Associated Press Photo Managers and a contributor to APME Update, is collaborating with Sun Herald City Editor Kate Magandy to pass along advice for editors striving to keep an eye on the big picture while mired in the middle.

SUNSHINE WEEK 2006
The inaugural Sunshine Week last year was a big hit as newspapers around the country shed light on freedom of information and other issues surrounding the public's right to know. This year's Sunshine Week is March 12-18, and plans for town hall meetings and citizen panels are under way at newspapers nationwide.
