DIVERSITY IN THE NICHES
Many newspapers are boosting readership and advertising revenue by turning to niche products. These niche products provide the same opportunities as our newspapers to include people who make up the broad range of diversity in our coverage – from the cover stories to columnists selected for regular topical features to calendar listings.

Calvin Stovall highlights some of the dailies that have carried their commitment to diversity into specialty products.

PROMOTE DIVERSITY COVERAGE

APME IN NEW ORLEANS
It's not too early to begin planning to attend APME's annual conference Oct. 25-28 in New Orleans.

The conference will be held at the Astor Crowne Plaza, which has remained open before, during and after the storm with only minimal damage. Editors throughout the Gulf Coast are in on the conference planning, and are promising a close-up look at the recovery and efforts to cover the many facets of this ongoing story.

You can find conference details and registration information at: www.apme.com/conferences/2006conference.shtml.
