TWO DIFFERENT ROUTES TO DAILY PODCASTING
Podcasting continues to gain in popularity as newspaper web sites flock to the new technology. Most, of course, are still in the experimental stage, struggling with how much of their limited resources to devote to this emerging but untested space.

Mark Briggs takes a look at a contrast in approaches: the Arizona Republic and the Modesto Bee.

MULTIMEDIA PROJECTS FOCUS ON THE RETURN FROM WAR
Several great projects recently have chronicled soldiers' struggle to return from the war in Iraq and re-enter society or cope with life-changing injuries. Mark Briggs take a quick look at three from the Roanoke Times, Los Angeles Times and San Francisco Chronicle.

OTTAWA CITIZEN MEDICAL CONVERGENCE PROJECT
The Ottawa Citizen published an interesting convergence project recently. "The Residents: Medicine's Front Line" is an extensive look at local doctors-in-training, complete with loads of multimedia, puzzles, a quiz, and a doctor's blog. It also featured separate Q&A discussions with a reporter, photographer and editor.

WEBBY AWARDS ANNOUNCED
The Onion is a finalist for best news site and Columbia Journalism Review is up for best political blog. That must mean, Mark Briggs says, it's time for the annual Webby Awards, the all-encompassing "Oscars" for online now in their 10th season.

TWO NEW REPORTS ON AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT
How has media usage changed over the past decade and what's the best process for creating products to reach elusive media consumers? Those are the topics of two new reports from NAA/ASNE's new Audience Development Initiative. "Understanding the Media Landscape" provides an overview of shifting media consumption. "A New Approach to Product Development" is a best practices study on product development processes that includes details about product innovation strategy and an idea-to-launch process.

You can find both at:

WEBBY AWARDS ANNOUNCED
The Louisville Courier Journal has launched an in-depth Kentucky Derby database, a Washingtonpost.com AME answers questions during a chat, Yahoo expands local news, Spartanburg increases its multimedia and the Augusta Chronicle blankets the Masters.
