The Associated Press Media Editors is a hard-working, fun group of AP-member news media leaders from around the continent. Founded in 1931, APME has grown to assist newsroom leaders advance the cause of journalism, the First Amendment and provided practical tools to face myriad challenges in our industries.

Our NewsTrain regional training programs provides low-cost regional training to help frontline editors become more effective leaders in print and online news operations of all sizes. It celebrates a decade of service in 2012.

The annual conference brings together news leaders and industry professionals to learn, exchange ideas, network and play in our nation's leading locales.

APME's contests honor the best in many categories, including Public Service, Watchdog Journalism, First Amendment, Innovation, Online Convergence and International Perspective. We also celebrate the best of The Associated Press in writing and photography awards.

Throughout the year, APME leads the cause of Freedom of Information by lending its voice and resources toward issues that arise. Our Innovator of the Month contest celebrates solutions and new ideas. Our quarterly online auctions offer fun items and go directly toward advancing our missions. The Sounding Board polls members on issues of the day. Our National Projects, such as Aging America and Broken Budgets, pair the resources of AP with issues of import, enabling members to have an impact on these topics in their coverage areas.

The Board of Directors meets twice a year in New York City to plan activities and projects and gets an update from AP leaders.

Much of APME's work occurs throughout the year in the association's committees. While individual goals change every year as new issues and opportunities arise, the priority remains the same: help APME assist busy editors to become better managers leading trained, professional staffs who put out interesting, relevant newspapers, websites and broadcast reports. The committees are a great way to get involved with the association and to move into an important, visible role in the news industry.
