The Asian American Journalists Association is offering immersive trainingin partnership with several industry leaders in New York City on Wednesday Aug. 21st. Space is limited in these workshops, so get your ticket now to save yourself a spot. Information on how to guarantee yourself a space is provided below. Registration for the AAJA National Convention is not required to attend these workshops.

IRE’s Watchdog workshop -

Investigative Reporters and Editors’ Watchdog Workshops offer tips, tools and training that you can use immediately to add depth to your work, from breaking news coverage to quick-turn enterprise and long-term projects. Reporters, editors and producers return to their newsrooms with hard-hitting story ideas, websites and online resources to explore, lists of key documents to obtain, techniques for more effective reporting, ways to use the web and social media to find information, insight into the latest technology for news gathering and much more.

• Where: New York Hilton Midtown, 1335 Avenue of the Americas

• When: 10:00 am to 5:30 pm

Practical HTML & CSS for Journalists -

Learn how to format text and add content to a web page using HTML; and how to change the basic layout, typography and colors of your stories using CSS. Plus, get a better understanding of how websites (like your news organization’s) are made. This hands-on tutorial is for journalists without HTML or CSS experience, and will help you tell smarter, more engaging stories online. This session will be led by Sisi Wei of ProPublica and Tom Giratikanon of the New York Times.

• Where: New York Hilton Midtown, 1335 Avenue of the Americas

• When: 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Followed immediately by the drop-in coding session until 4:00 p.m.

One Story, Many Platforms -

This half-day session will show you how to plan and to execute stories across a spectrum of platforms, from text to video to interactive graphics. Learn innovative ways to use all of your available tools to tell a captivating story while keeping the story grounded in solid reporting. Led by Anup Kaphle, digital foreign editor for The Washington Post.

• Where: Columbia Journalism School

• When: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm

Covering Your local economy -

This half-day workshop will teach attendees how to cover the economic angle to any beat, find and use data to develop local stories, and find fresh angles on unemployment and housing trends. Expect to walk away with 10 local economic story ideas you can start next week — whether business is a part of your beat or not.

• When: 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

NYU Business Bootcamp for Journalists -

This all-day workshop will help journalists understand the business side of journalism in order to be better managers and entrepreneurs. Attendees will learn business basics including business strategy, biggest trends, marketing, entrepreneurial skills and intelligent risk-taking, as well as an opportunity to connect with others who have gone down the entrepreneurial path.

• When: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m
