The Associated Press Media Editors has honored thisphotograph as National AP Member Photo of the Month for August 2017.
Thanks to Jake May at The Flint Journalfor judging this month.
Here is what the judge had to say about the winning image:
“There was a lot of fine work, and some heavy-hitting topical news that has rocked the nation and the world throughout the month of August. It was a tough choice, as Hurricane Harvey hit Texas and so many emotionally-charged photos captured the difficulties people dealt with in real time and delivered as such. Heck, even some of the feature photos in here are truly incredible, especially of how the world stopped to watch the solar eclipse. All of that said, one photo rose to the top. As a growing unrest of inequality in America continues divide the country, no photo has captured it better than that of Ryan M Kelly’s image of protestors being run over by a vehicle in Charlottesville, Va. It is clear that this photo will define this moment in American history. The two men captured midair shows the action as its happening, while the signage around shows that of peaceful protestors with the words “Solidarity,” “Black Lives Matter” and “Love.” This photo has it all. Every element, and a news image that will outlive all of us. This is one for the history books.”
Below is the link to all images entered for August and the winner is slide #28.

People fly into the air as a vehicle drives into a group of protesters demonstrating against a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017. The nationalists were holding the rally to protest plans by the city of Charlottesville to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. There were several hundred protesters marching in a long line when the car drove into a group of them. (Ryan M. Kelly/The Daily Progress via AP)
