The APME has honored a shot by David Carson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch of unrest in Ferguson, Mo., as National Member Photo of the Month for November 2014.

The building and several others in-and-around Ferguson were burned during protests after a grand jury decided not to indict a white police officer in the killing of unarmed, black 18-year-old Michael Brown. Thanks to Ben Gray at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for judging this month.

Here is what Ben had to say about the winning image:

“The photographer did a fantastic job of capturing the destruction of the riots in Ferguson and the militaristic response of police with an image that looked like it was shot in a war zone rather than the midwest. This photo has an immediate, visceral punch to it."

In the December contest, the winner was Austin Anthony of The Daily News, for a shot of a high school football title game.

Thanks to Nicole Frugé at the San Francisco Chronicle for judging this month.

Here is what Nicole had to say about the winning image:

“It’s a energetic frame, with a nice use of composition, light, and a great moment."
