The APME has honored this photograph as National Member Photo of the Month for July 2016.
Caption: Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump holds baby cousins Evelyn Kate Keane, 6-months-old, and Kellen Campbell, 3-months-old, following his speech at the Gallogly Events Center at University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, Friday, July 29, 2016 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Thanks to Bob Graves and Mike Green of AP's Central Region photo desk for judging this month.
A little background on the photograph from Stacie:
"When photographing an event like this, I aim to get anything other than a podium shot. As the media was barricaded in the back of the room, I didn't expect to be so lucky. When Trump's speech concluded, however, the still photographers were taken on stage to photograph his round of handshakes. This both surprised and excited me as I now had the opportunity to exercise a bit more creativity. The stage was crowded, so I snagged a spot at the opposite end and waited for Trump to make his way down the line. Once in front of me, he was handed the two babies and paused briefly to have his photo taken by their mothers. Trump offered the prime opportunity when he quickly turned to face the media, and posed for considerable time while various reactions from all parties ensued. There were smiles and kisses and more smiles, but this version was the most amusing."
