On Nov. 10, 69 APME members joined Mandy Jenkins, Social News Editor of the Huffington Post, for a webinar on mobile and web reporting tools.

Jenkins gave hands-on advice on ways to attack mobile and web reporting from both in and out of the newsroom, and shared great practical uses for mobile reporting applications, from using Twitter to break news and find sources, to live-streaming video from your smartphone using Qik. She also offered tips for newsroom productivity and workflow, and shared a few of her favorite web tools.

A few highlights:

- Trendsmap is a real-time tool that tells you what words and hashtags are trending on Twitter and displays where they’re published from on a map. This is a great tool for researching specific stories and finding out what people are talking about both in your area and across the world.

- Crowdmap is a web application that collects reader-contributed information and displays them on an easy-to-use interactive map and timeline. According to Jenkins, it’s "free, fast and reader-friendly.”

- All Our Ideas. Looking for the best burger in the area? This poll tool is a great way to collect data, information and preferences from readers.  Users cruise through a set of answers, choose their favorites, and create their own if they don’t see an idea they like.
