Join Your Colleagues at APME/ASNE News Leadership Conference in Philly Register today for the 2016 ASNE-APME News Leadership Conference Sept. 11-14 in downtown Philadelphia. The conference opens with an evening reception Sunday, Sept. 11, at the landmarkNational Constitution Center, at 525 Arch St., just blocks from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. A pre-conference workshop focused on newsroom transformation is Sunday afternoon for a limited number of participants. Attendees will also be able to attend events hosted by the Associated Press Photo Managers, which holds its annual conference in conjunction with APME and ASNE.
Our event hotel is the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, at 1201 Market St. Conference sessions begin there Monday morning and conclude by noon Wednesday.
The conference includes: Two preconference workshops on Sunday afternoon. One is focused on newsroom transformation for a limited number of participants. The other features trainers from Google Labs. Attendees will also be able to attend events hosted by the Associated Press Photo Managers, which will be holding its annual conference in conjunction with ASNE and APME for the third year in a row. Our event hotel is the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, at 1201 Market St. Conference sessions will begin there Monday morning and conclude by noon Wednesday.
APPM will have speakers from news organizations across the country, from those doing community photojournalism to photojournalists making documentary films. One of the speakers will be Brian Cassella, a staff photographer at the Chicago Tribune. He will talk about his series "The Next Day," which documents the day following fatal shootings throughout Chicago.
For baseball fans:
the Pittsburgh Pirates play the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Citizens Bank Park. A limited number of tickets are available, which you will need to purchase when you register for the conference.

To register for the main conference: The registration fee is $275 for members of ASNE and APME and $375 for nonmembers. There are special rates for retired members, spouses, students and APME's Regents. Lunch tickets for Monday and Tuesday can be purchased during registration as can tickets to the Pirates vs. Phillies baseball game Tuesday night.

______________________ Diversity-scholarship, other deadlines approach for NewsTrain Aug. 25 is the deadline to apply for diversity scholarships to attend Murfreesboro NewsTrain Sept. 30-Oct. 1. Journalists, journalism students and journalism educators from diverse backgrounds are invited to compete. Successful applicants will have their registration fee waived, courtesy of the APME Foundation. NewsTrain will be at Middle Tennessee State University, 39 miles south of Nashville, for two full days of digital training in social, data, video and mobile by top journalists. Attendees regularly rate NewsTrain’s training as 4.5 or higher, with 5 as highly effective and useful. Other upcoming deadlines include: · Sept. 1 for early-bird registration of $75. On Sept. 2, the rate goes to $85 for everyone except students, for whom it remains $75. · Sept. 1 for the $109 discounted room rate at a hotel offering a free shuttle to the Murfreesboro workshop site. · Oct. 1 to apply to bring the learning, morale boost and fun of a NewsTrain to your town in 2017.
